HSAC - J.Long Shield - Salthouse 16/11/08
HSAC Presidents Cup Sheringham 09/11/08
With the majority of Holt regulars fishing elsewhere in the Teams of Five event, the remaining crew settled in to the west of the lifeboat slipway in the hope of catching a Codling or two.
Reports of good-size Codling and Whiting being caught less than a quarter of a mile to the west at the locally renown Old High mark sparked their imagination throughout the day.
However a stiff Southwesterly had flattened the sea, and along with it, any hopes of tempting the better fish off the rough ground that lies but a short distance offshore.
The only Codling of the day fell to Russell Barber which helped secure him second place behind John Neave who managed a mixed bag of nine fish to take the overall match spot.

26th Oct. Trimmingham
HSAC 26th Oct. Trimmingham 9am - 2pm LW 11.14am 4.5m
A good turnout for a Trimmingham match with 10 anglers all expecting a good match.
When we arrived it was to see a nicely coloured sea and thios gave rise to expectations of codling and of course the ever obliging whiting should also be showing.
We were not to be dissappointed……
Dene Conway and Tony Thomas walked to the left of slipway with Tony Chidwick also making tthe long walk, others dispersed left and right in search of the whiting.
The whole area seemed to fish with consistent catches to the right an dif it had been a zoned match Richard Ives and Sam would have been first and second at that end, up the other end Tony and Dene were slogging out a fish for fish match and towwards the end it was Tony who pulled ahead to catch 25 fish to Dene’s 18, although Dene also had a codling which helped bring his weight within striking distance.
The overall results showed a reasonably tight match between the top 3 on the day, with 4th place being around 2lb behind 3rd place.
- Tony Thomas 25 fish for 8lb 8oz
- Richard Ives 21 fish for 7lb 13 1/3 oz
- Dene Conway 18 fish for 7lb 2oz
- Sam Attew 19 fish for 5lb 15oz
- John Neave 11 fish 5lb 6oz
- Tony Chidwick 12 fish for 4lb 5 1/3 oz
- Henry Randell 10 fish for 3lb 14oz
- Dennis Hunn 11 fish for 3lb 10oz
- Russell Barber 10 fish for 3lb 2oz
- Bob Thompson 8 fish for 2lb 1/3oz
Kelling 12th October
10 of us turned out for the match at Kelling, we had changed the venue to avoid any hassles and charges from the jobsworth at Cley carpark. Most opted for the left and the wreck area in the hope of some whiting showing up early as reports had suggested.Dene & Tony had other ideas with Dene going to the left end of cliffs and Tony just in front of cliffs both hoping match tactics would pay off..
It was a nip and tuck match with most of the fish coming early on and plenty of undersized dabs aswell.Tactics seemed to win the day with Tony ” Genesis” Chidwick regaining his hunger for success and securing 1st place with 10 fish for 4.4, and still on good form running up the rear into 2nd place was Dene “smoooth” Conway with 7 fish for 2.12 2/3, also continuing good form was Henry Randell with 4 fish all caught early on for 2.5 1/3 and as usual Sam “lucky” Attew was close on his heels with 6 fish for 2.2. It was a good sign that no one blanked so lets hope the rest of the winter months bring us bumper catches and maybe even some record weights.

Cley Match 21/09/2008
Not many anglers turned up to this weeks match with the poor reports of late. The seven harden soles that turned up were: John Neave, Bob Thompson, Tony Chidwick, Dene Conway, Robert Ford, Richard Ives and our junior angler Henry Randall. We all arrived at Cley beach car park at 8:15 – 8:30 before the Norfolk Wildlife Trust (NWT) car park attendant arrived so not to pay the car parking charges. Well this was what happened in the past but not today! The attendant arrived at 8:30 and approached us looking for us to pay the charges. We explained that if we were there before him we would not have to pay. His reply was not only NO but accused us of being “know it alls” and he became rather rude and discourteous towards our club. We explained that we have fished this part of the beach and used this car park for 50 years or so we have never paid for parking. However the voluntary car park attendant did not believe anything we said, he then accused his colleages of not doing their jobs and that we have been misled. He portrayed himself as though he was the NWT – Cley site manager and lord of the land. By this time we were angry at his reaction and his attitude and the club will be sending Brendon Joyce (NWT managing director) a letter expressing our disbelief of NWT volunteers’ attitude towards the public and resolve the car parking issue so watch this space. But in the mean time the jumped up attendant told us that if we refused to pay he would record our number plates and pass the info onto a debit collection agency to retrieve the £3.50 car park fee. As a result Tony decided to move the match to kelling and said if any one wanted to make the £3.50 car park donation was welcome to on the way out.
The fishing match was… well, the weather was nice; the sea was crystal clear and flat charm. Divers and idiots on boats here there and everywhere, oh and the only sizeable fish fell to John Neave a 25cm dab. Hope next weeks open is better.
