Venue : Kelling Sunday 6th July 9am - 2pm The last match of the summer season saw eight of us turn out at kelling, this wasnt surprising as the recent fishing along the north norfolk coast has been very poor, as other match and pleasure anglers will probably agree with. A flat calm crystal clear sea with sandeels jumping,we didn't hold out much hope for bumper catches but we would give it a try. It was forecast for heavy showers but luckily they seemed to be slightly further north and the match stayed relatively dry with us catching the lighter tail end of the storms. Tony "TT" Thomas headed off to the blockhouse, myself and John Neave walked to the left of the carpark and the rest went towards the right with late comers Richard " Golden Bollox" Ives and Dennis" The Whinger" Hunn were more towards the Rosalie wreck area. After a long sloooow 5 hours only two members managed to catch anything within the size limits and that was Dennis and Thank god the summer season is over so we can all now look forward to the winter season which should be starting sometime in September, dates and venues will be added and newsletter will be sent out after 18th of August. results
Venue : Weybourne Sunday 29th June 4pm - 9pm

Venue : Trimmingham Sunday 15th June 9.00 - 14.00 A beautiful day to be on the beaches, with light winds and sunny conditions prevailing. 8 members decided to fish with all 8 opting for the marks to the left of the slipway, with Robert "Camouflage" Ford, Richard "Golden Bollox" Ives and Dene "Smoooth" Conway walking the furthest towards the concrete revetments. The line up right to left was Ray "Popeye" Ward, John Neave, Tony "Genesis" Chidwick, Sam Attew, Dennis "The Whinger" Hunn, Dene, Richard, and Robert, witrh Dennis Sam and Tony in the one bay together. The match started off promising for myself with an undersize small bass taken on the end of the groin and an even smaller flounder, I hoped more fish would show in the gulley I could see 60 or 70 yards out with condition just about right for the Bass to make a show. I managed to pull in a 21cm Pout early on along with Dennis who grabbed himself an eel on peeler. Reports all the way along were pretty bad with the odd small bass showing but not alot else , we knew then it would be a close match with probably one or two fish winning it. In the last two hours I managed to hook a nice flounder at 30cm and with two fish I was hoping to do well, I was then informed by Dennis that John had a flounder aswell and no one was sure what Ray had at that time so it was still all to fish for.... As it turned out only 3 of us managed to catch giving the others an unexpected blank. Results and upto date league positions.

Venue : Salthouse Friday 6th June 17.30 - 22.30 Salthouse this week, for a change a Friday evening match, and very welcome change too. Well it was until her at home found out and planned other ideas for what was going to be a lazy Sunday. It rained non-stop prior to the match and just as I was leaving the house the sun got out. Well bloody typical I thought to myself. By the time I arrived everyone was on the beach almost setup. Caught up in rush hour traffic and satisfying a hungry belly were my best excuses. By the time I got my rod setup and baited up it was time to start. Positioned between Ray Ward and Bob Thompson I kept flitting back and fourth to find out what the best tactics for this session. Flounders were the main target as the smooth hounds and bass weren’t showing in such large concentrations. Bob Thompson wandered up the beach with a sizeable flounder in tow. After filling in his card we had a lengthy chat about how criminal car insurance companies are and the excessive costs for new motorist. (it was a hectic match as you can tell). After about 15mins of nattering Bob wandered back to his base camp and returned almost within seconds of leaving. A 38cm bass took a liking to his lug bait and neither of us noticed the bite. We both had a laugh and he said he would keep coming over to chat if it caught him fish like that. I thought why not if it works but that was the last I saw bob till the weigh in. Many small dab were showing especially late in the evening. The knack was to find the gullies and fish through the small stuff and hope a decent flounder would turn up. Tony Thomas seemed to have this down to a fine art with 5 fish (including a codling)to his name and a winning weight of 3.3 2/3 lb. The weigh in and results of the match all seemed trivial in the car park, as the up coming match with Sea Angler magazine doing a possible cover of our club was more important. The results
Venue :June Sunday 1st Cley 0900-1400 (low water 1100) With a week or so of great fishing on the North Norfolk coast, anticipations were very high among the 10 members who turned out for this match. We were greeted by a flat calm crystal clear sea and humid, damp conditions, possibly perfect conditions for the smooth hound action we all wanted.
Pleasure session brings rewards at Cley: 29th May 2008, Dene Conway grabs a smoothie to remember. This smoothie was measured at 116cm and had a head like a bulldog,it was caught on fresh peeler crab on a size 2, 2 hook flapper,it is estimated using the conversion chart to be 17lb 5oz and 1/3, it was returned alive to fight another day, at the same venue several other club members including young Henry Randall managed a 97cm smoothhound (10lb +), hopefully in this Sundays match they will show again.....
Last match at Kelling was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions Venue: Salthouse18th May 9am to 2pm Low water 12.40pm First things first, for those of you that received the newsletter issued at Salthouse, next weeks match venue is missing on some of the copies. Next weeks match is scheduled for Kelling 1000-1500 (high water 09.45). My apologies for the typo and I hope to see you all next week. Salthouse this week and the sun was out once again. The wind was sharp and came straight off the sea, whipping it up a treat. As I sat in the car park waiting for all members to turn up it was quite pleasant, the shingle bank acting as a wind break. There was great anticipation before the match with the sea state giving a good possibility for some sizeable bass.Near low water would produce the best numbers, possibly, maybe, fingers crossed…With the thought of bass being caught the car park turned into a market place with people buying and selling peeler crab and lug. When it was time for the off it was an even split with a 3rd of the anglers going to the right of the car park, another 3rd going straight over and the final 3rd off to the left. No matter where you went along this part of the beach I think all of us thought the same when we saw the amount of rubbish that was floating by in the tide. I lost count of the number of palettes that went by and the plastic wrapping. Dene Conway hooked into a large piece of plastic caught in the breakers and it looked more like he was fighting a bronze whaler shark on the Namibian skeleton coast. Later on after the match was finished we found out that Dene wasn’t the only victim to this piece of plastic as golden balls had also had an encounter with it. The fishing was hard work with the amount of rubbish floating past catching the line and pulling it straight into the large surf battering the beach. Many small bass and flounder were caught but these were few and far between. Towards low tide the sea state became slightly calmer but the amount of white water showing had increased. Lovely areas of surf started breaking just off shore and it was now or never if the bass were going to show. I spotted a bar or silver being reeled up the beach and Bob Thompson had done it again a sizeable bass. I thought to myself if there’s one then there might be more… Once the match was over and we all had completed the hike back to the car park over the gravel beach. There was a rumour that golden balls had done it again and found a 3lb-ish bass. The rumours were true and Richard ‘golden balls’ Ives had taken first place with 4.11 2/3lb. In fact most of the anglers who caught fish to weigh in had bass on the score card. Congratulations to those that caught fish and better luck next time to those who didn’t. See you all at Kelling.
Venue: Bacton noon to 5pm 11th May The Bacton match was a very warm affair with bright sunshine and the heat to go with it.We all parked within the confines of Castaways caravan park and special thanks to the owners for allowing us the facilities. Results
Venue: Kelling 9am to 2pm 4th May Kelling was host to this weeks match. We were met by glorious sunshine; however the wind put a dampener on the temperature. There was a good turn out for a change (eventually when everyone remembered what time the match actually started!) and the club would like to welcome all new members. Anyway, back to the match report. With summer arriving abruptly I think the sun had gone to our heads. I say this because of the array of different baits on show before we teed off. Garlic, olives and silt, I know what your thinking!!! Fishermen will try anything to catch fish. New comer Ray (Popeye) Ward was responsible for the olives and the silt which managed to catch a good size rockling. The sea was flat calm and the order of the day was dabs… well so we hoped. The chairman Tony Chidwick and golden b******s were convinced that a long hike towards the block house would produce the goods. A few anglers including myself headed towards the wreck and everyone else filled in the gaps. At the end of the match many of the anglers had a mixed bag with pout and dabs being the most common fish caught. However congratulations must handed to our tiddler bashing champ Dene Conway who finally caught something to way in! The lucky devil managed to haul in two starry smoothhounds at 57 cm each as well as 5 pouting one of which measured 31cm giving him a winning weight of 4.7 lbs. This just goes to show after weeks of catching next to nothing even the most disheartened anglers can come good. The early showing of smoothhound is a promising sign which will get anglers back onto the beaches and catching good fish again. One of the reason for Dene’s success was he was using fresh peeler crab. With next weeks match being played at Bacton near the gas site; (a good bass mark) I wonder how many more anglers will be wrapping crabs around hooks and crossing fingers?

Venue: Cley 10am - 3pm 27th April This weeks match took place in Cley, there was a bit controversy before the match begun with the car parking fees set by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust £3.00 they wanted but most of us turned up before 9am and didn't have to pay. Some anglers fished this part of the beach the day before. Reports were not hopeful, Dene Conway informed us of his tiddler bashing session with only one sizeable dab to show for his efforts. Venue: Trimmingham 10am - 3pm 20th April A cold and wet start to this 4th match of the season, with only a handful of anglers braving the conditions.Sea state was moderate to rough with a 15mph NE wind.
Plenty of surf offered the chance of Bass and possibly good sized codling.Only 3 anglers managed to weigh in with 1st place going to Tony Chidwick with 3 fish including a Bass for a total of 1lb 10oz
2nd was Sam Attew with 1 fish (whiting)for 0.4 1/2 and 3rd was Dene Conway with 1 fish (pouting)for 3oz, all in all a dissappointing match with undersize fish dominating the catch.
Next match at Cley 10am to 3pm 27th April.
1st: T.Chidwick 1lb 10oz
2nd: S.Attew 0.4 1/2oz
3rd: D.Conway 0.3oz
Venue: Salthouse 2pm till 7pm 13th April This week’s match was a difficult one. Yet again the weatherman got it all wrong! A sunny spell followed by heavy showers and the odd boom of thunder prevailed for the afternoon’s session. The sea was slight to moderately rough and high tide around 1 o’clock. The matched kicked off a 2pm and we fished the tide down. In the car park before the match got underway there was talk of a possible coddling winning the money. Other anglers reckoned that targeting dabs would be the key to success. In the end pouting were in fact the most frequent fish popping up on the scorecards, with reports of many under size fish being caught. Once again the fishing gods smiled upon Richard (Golden B******s) Ives. Who managed to winkle out a few sizable whiting at the very start of the match to give him a real edge over the other anglers and a winning weight of 2lb 6oz. Roll on next weeks match and fingers crossed there are a few more fish to catch!
Venue: Weybourne North Norfolk 2pm till 7pm 6th April 2008 In total contrast to last weeks summer conditions, we had northerly winds and snow before the match started, luckily the sea state had calmed off enough to make it fishable. Only 9 anglers braved the cold for the second match of the season and we fished the flood tide, for a time we could hold the bottom but during the last 2 hours of the match this became increasingly difficult.Weed and waves played their part with only 5 of the 9 anglers having anything to show. Bob Thompson with an early codling for 2.4 2/3 secured victory with no other angler breaking the 1lb mark. All in all a dissappointing session with many undersize codling being reported. Results:
